Thea Müller, who runs one of the last basketry workshops in the Oderbruch region, has turned her house into a museum with 1800 exhibits of wickerwork, ranging from simple baskets to bottles and shoes.
Probably the most curious thing about basket-making in the Oderbruch is that it has never developed a regional style. Every region in Germany used to make its own typical baskets, such as the Spreewaldkorb in the Spreewald and the Huckelkorb in Nuremberg, but the Oderbruch is different. A variety of nations which settled the region from the 18th century on brought their own, very different basket shapes and weaving techniques, creating a mixture from which no single typical style has ever emerged.
